🚚 COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ENFORCEMENT INITIATIVE CONDUCTED IN COLLINGWOOD

(Collingwood, ON) – On September 16, 2026, members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from officers from Huronia West OPP, Central Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME), OPP General Headquarters, and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) enforcement initiative in the Town of Collingwood.

During the initiative, officers conducted inspections to ensure compliance with provincial and federal legislation, as well as Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) standards.

A total of 20 commercial motor vehicles were inspected. Of those inspected, five vehicles were placed out of service due to significant safety defects. Additionally, three commercial vehicles were found to be operated by drivers who did not hold the appropriate class of licence.

As a result of the enforcement effort, officers laid a total of 33 charges and issued numerous warnings for a variety of offences, including:

• Improper load securement
• Defective or improper braking systems
• Failure to maintain required inspections and documentation

Road safety remains a top priority for both the OPP and the MTO. Enforcement and inspection initiatives such as this will continue throughout the year to ensure commercial vehicles operating on Ontario roadways are safe, properly maintained, and compliant with all applicable legislation.

The OPP and MTO commend commercial vehicle operators who prioritize safety, maintain their equipment to required standards, and operate professionally. Continued enforcement efforts help ensure the safety of all road users.
