✅ SCENE WATCH MEDIA | OUR NEXT COUNCIL NEEDS TO MOVE THIS FORWARD

Let’s get the second truck covered.
As Collingwood prepares to elect its next council, we are asking incoming members to make additional fire department shift coverage an early priority.
Based on our conversations with the fire department, the immediate proposal is to use existing qualified staff to provide additional supervisory coverage and bring staffing to six on shift, supporting a second truck responding to calls.
This proposal uses personnel already available within the department. The next step is to confirm the scheduling, cost and operational requirements with fire leadership, then bring the necessary funding and approvals forward promptly.
Our next council should request that information at its earliest opportunity and set a firm date for a decision. The first 90 days should provide enough time to move this proposal forward, and we encourage action sooner wherever possible.
We are asking council members to visit the fire hall, listen to our firefighters and understand what happens when emergency calls overlap. Then take that knowledge into the council chamber and act on it.
Residents should be able to see what the additional coverage will cost, how it will work across the platoons and when it can begin. If an obstacle remains, explain it publicly and identify what is needed to resolve it.
This is a practical starting point while broader fire service needs continue to be addressed.
To our incoming mayor and council members, make this an early decision. Work with fire leadership, approve the necessary resources and get the second truck covered.
Our firefighters are ready to serve. Let’s give them the coverage to do it.
WE STAND WITH OUR FIRST RESPONDERS.
