Due to fire regulations regarding the occupancy of the room allowed (less then 270), we respectfully ask that each candidate limit the number of people from your campaign team in the audience, why not let those from the community who are unsure of their vote yet into the limited space in the room so they can see and hear from you.

– Candidates are not permitted to put up or display signs of any kind on the Legion property or inside the Legion. This also includes wearing t-shirts/clothing with your name on it; they will not be allowed into the Legion.
– Candidates are permitted to place handouts on chairs prior to the start of the All Candidates meeting but you must pick up all your material that is left over following the All-Candidates meeting to help the volunteers of the Legion who will be cleaning it later. You are not to stand inside the Legion blocking areas to hand them out.

Land Reconciliation and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Minute of Silence by: Legion President Anthony Griffiths
Welcome and Opening by Moderator: John Eaton

  1. Candidates will be seated on the stage facing the audience in order of how they were drawn to speak with microphone being passed between all candidates.
  2. Each candidate will have 3 minutes Opening Statement to introduce themselves and talk about their platform.
    a) Timekeeper (sitting on the floor in front of the stage) will raise their hand at the 30 seconds left mark for the candidate to wrap it up.
    b) At the 3-minute mark the Timekeeper will, sound a bell and the moderator will stop you.
  3. Following everyone’s opening remarks, questions that were submitted earlier by the people in our community have been placed into a bowl, and the Moderator will pull out a question.
  4. The Moderator will read the question out for everyone to hear.  In order of being drawn earlier in the evening, who will start answering the question posed from the moderator.  You will have 1 & 1/2 minutes to answer the question.  The timekeeper will raise their hand at the 30 seconds left mark for the candidate to wrap it up. At 1 & 1/2 minutes mark the Timekeeper will, sound a bell and the moderator will cut you off.
  5. The moderator will then ask if any other candidate would like to respond to the same question. If so, moderator will call in order of how you were drawn; you will have 1 minute to answer the same questions. Timekeeper will raise their hand at 30 second mark and at the end of your time a bell will sound, and the moderator will cut you off. After all who choose to answer the question are done then moderator will repeat the steps by pulling a new question from the jar.
  6. Once the posing question section is completed, the moderator will start the closing remarks section.  Each candidate will have 1 minute for closing remarks. Timekeeper will raise their arm at the 30 second mark and then sound a bell at the 1-minute mark, and the moderator will cut you off.

This will conclude the scheduled portion of the All-Candidates Meeting, candidates are to go around the room and pick up all their brochures and pamphlets left on the floor or chairs.  Please Remember: The legion is a volunteer organization, and they are the ones who will have to do this if candidates do not!

Candidates are welcome after this time to talk with people from the community in attendance at the Legion.

The Town of Collingwood will have a table set up with staff available to answer any questions anyone from the community might have regarding the voting procedure this year and to check if they are on the voters list.

A HUGE shout out goes to our local Legion Br #63 and all their awesome volunteers because without them we could not do this!!

If you would like to submit a question to go into the jar the night of the All Candidates Meeting please email it to: tirwin@collingwoodchamber.com
