Time to express my opinion about our current “trade war” with the US… mostly in reaction to people suggesting things will be back to normal once Trump is gone…
A change in the Presidency will not automatically bring back “friendly relations”. Canadians have long memories and fully understand that 2/3rds of Americans allowed this to happen (1/3 voted for him and 1/3 couldn’t be bothered to even vote) so it’s clearly more than just one man and his minions!
Additionally, we will never forget that virtually the entire Republican party chose their personal power over honesty and decency. He has been allowed to threaten our sovereignty with total impunity. They have allowed him, in fact encouraged him, to drag the US to its current depth of international disgrace.
PM Carney is absolutely correct to attempt to disentangle our economic reliance by bringing more players to the table – the more partners Canada attracts the weaker US’s control and the stronger Canada becomes.
Of course, we’ll still trade south… but we’ll NEVER trust them again!
Congratulations… American collective cowardice has cost them their best and most reliable friends on the planet!
