Collingwood, ON [04 May 2026] – Collingwood’s downtown is set to become even more accessible with the addition of 90 new public parking spaces in a newly constructed underground facility. The Town has entered into a temporary parking space lease agreement, as a pilot project, with Shepco Properties Ltd. for a period of 5 months at their new building, Harbour House, located at 31 Huron Street. Parking will be available at this location effective May 15, 2026, just in time for the long weekend!
The pilot is an exciting step toward easing parking pressures and helping create a more vibrant, welcoming downtown core. While the Town advances its Parking Study to better understand current usage and identify future improvements, this initiative delivers practical, immediate benefits for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
“This pilot reflects Council’s strong commitment to ensuring accessible, convenient parking for everyone who enjoys our beautiful downtown,” says Mayor Yvonne Hamlin. “By adding these 90 new spaces, we are meeting today’s needs while thoughtfully planning for the future.”
These new spaces will supplement the Town’s three existing above-ground downtown parking lots, increasing overall parking capacity while preserving valuable surface space for people, businesses, and community life.
Supporting a Lively Downtown
The additional underground parking will help:
- Improve access to downtown shops, restaurants, workplaces, and services
- Encourage economic activity by making it easier and more convenient to visit the downtown core
- Reduce parking stress during peak times and special events
The underground parking option will operate the same as the existing Downtown Parking Lots:
- Municipal Lot Parking Rate: $1.00 per hour payable via HotSpot. (no maximum)
- Monthly Downtown Parking Permits: $58.00 per month (Permits are valid in any downtown municipal parking lot)
- Paid parking in effect Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Parking is free on weekends.
This underground parking facility will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Parking regulations will be enforced by the Town of Collingwood’s By-law Enforcement Officers. As with other designated accessible parking spaces throughout the town, accessible parking in this underground lot will be free of charge. Downtown parking permit holders may also use this underground lot at no additional cost.
