Town of Collingwood Celebrates Provincial Recognition for Cycling Leadership

Collingwood, ON [06 October 2026] – At the Ontario Bike Summit, Canada’s largest cycling and active transportation conference, the Town of Collingwood was recognized with two prestigious awards celebrating the community’s commitment to cycling and active transportation.

The Share the Road Cycling Coalition reaffirmed Collingwood as a Silver Bicycle Friendly Community, recognizing the Town’s continued leadership in creating safe, accessible, and connected cycling opportunities for residents and visitors. In addition, Councillor Deb Doherty received the Public Leadership for Cycling Award, which recognizes elected officials whose leadership has meaningfully advanced local cycling infrastructure, safety, and culture.

“These recognitions reflect years of work by many people, including Council, staff, community partners, volunteers, and residents who have helped make cycling and active transportation a priority in Collingwood,” said Mayor Yvonne Hamlin. “We are proud to be recognized as a Silver Bicycle Friendly Community and congratulate Councillor Doherty on personally receiving this provincial award.”

The Bicycle Friendly Communities program, launched in 2010 by Share the Road Canada, provides guidance and support to municipalities working to promote cycling. Communities are evaluated across several categories, including engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, equity, and evaluation.

Collingwood first earned its Silver Bicycle Friendly Community designation in 2021 and continues to build on investments in trails, cycling infrastructure, active transportation planning, and programs that encourage safe cycling for all ages and abilities.

Share the Road presents the Public Leadership for Cycling Award annually through its Wheels of Change and Norma Moores Awards program. Peers nominate award recipients and Share the Road’s Board of Directors selects them in recognition of leadership, innovation, and collaboration in support of cycling across Ontario.
