🇨🇦 NANOS: What’s on Canada’s mind: From economic confidence and housing to elections and cross-border affairs

Past Week in Review: Nanos Polling and News Coverage – political tracking, and Bloomberg/Nanos economic tracking

Canada’s political landscape remained broadly stable this week, but the concerns shaping it continued to evolve. The Liberals held their advantage as healthcare and national unity attracted greater attention, while concern about the economy and Canada-U.S. relations eased. Economic confidence was also little changed, with expectations remaining below clearly positive territory.

Municipal elections in Ontario provided a less settled picture. Olivia Chow won another term as Toronto mayor and Mark Sutcliffe was returned in Ottawa, while several incumbents elsewhere were defeated. Affordability remained prominent in coverage, alongside questions about housing and local economic pressures.

Other Nanos research reflected a broadening range of public concerns. Canadians’ expectations for home prices continued to generate discussion, while homelessness attracted increased attention in Ottawa. Debate over airport privatization also brought scrutiny from aviation workers.

Beyond domestic politics, the approaching American midterms are raising questions about their consequences for Canada. The overall picture is one of political continuity accompanied by changing priorities, as healthcare, national unity, housing and local concerns compete for Canadians’ attention.
