(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) completed its Easter Long Weekend Seatbelt Campaign, held from April 18 to April 21, 2025, laying a total of 180 charges. The campaign, aimed at saving lives through seatbelt compliance, revealed the highest number of violations in the OPP’s Central Region, reflecting an unexpected level of non-compliance among drivers and passengers in the area.
Officers conducted proactive patrols across Collingwood and The Blue Mountains, resulting in 123 charges for seatbelt violations, underscoring the need for greater public awareness about the importance of buckling up. Beyond seatbelt enforcement, officers addressed other dangerous behaviours including two Criminal Code charges for impaired driving, and 55 other provincial offences including speeding and distracted driving.
The OPP thanks the many road users who did follow traffic safety laws over the long weekend but notes these charges show there’s still work to do. The public is urged to buckle up, drive sober, and stay focused behind the wheel to help achieve safer roads for all.
