(THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON) – Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and the Ministry of Finance, conducted a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety initiative in The Blue Mountains. The operation was attended by Detachment Commander Inspector Loris Licharson and Vice Chair of The Blue Mountains OPP Detachment Board, Lynn Church.

The enforcement initiative focused on ensuring compliance with commercial vehicle safety standards and regulations under the Highway Traffic Act. A total of 42 vehicles were inspected, resulting in 15 commercial motor vehicles being taken out of service due to safety violations. Officers laid 107 charges for infractions, including improper licensing, equipment violations, and load security issues. Additionally, five sets of licence plates were seized due to significant safety concerns. One written warning was issued for coloured fuel equipment lacking an approved label.

From Detachment Commander Inspector Loris Licharson: “The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP, alongside our partners at the MTO and Ministry of Finance, are committed to enhancing road safety by ensuring commercial vehicles meet the required safety standards. These initiatives are critical to reducing preventable collisions and keeping our highways safe for all users.”

The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP encourage anyone with information about unsafe commercial vehicles or dangerous driving to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.crimestop-gb.org.
