Collingwood, ON [12 May 2025] – The Accessibility Advisory Committee is proud to host “Sharing Your Voice”, an evening dedicated to celebrating and learning about accessibility and inclusion, in honor of National AccessAbility Week. This free and fully accessible event will take place on May 29th at 6:00 p.m. at the Collingwood Public Library, Community Room B/C, 55 Ste. Marie Steet.
Earlier in the day, the community is also invited to a flag raising ceremony at 3:00 p.m. at the Community Flagpole, located at the Collingwood Public Library, reinforcing our collective commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.
National AccessAbility Week is a time to recognize the contributions of individuals and organizations working to remove barriers and create inclusive communities. It is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and the work still needed to ensure accessibility for all.
The evening event will feature keynote speakers from the Children’s Treatment Network Augmentative Communication Consultation Service who will share insights on communication accessibility and inclusion.
Additionally, attendees will enjoy a screening of the film “Out of My Mind”, a powerful coming-of-age drama based on the best-selling novel by Sharon M. Draper. The film follows Melody Brooks, a sixth-grader with cerebral palsy who is nonverbal but possesses a brilliant mind. With the help of assistive technology and supportive allies, Melody proves that her voice matters, despite the challenges she faces.
This event is free and open to all, ensuring that everyone can participate.
Join us as we celebrate National AccessAbility Week and amplify our collective voice.
