
CIVIC HOLIDAY WEEKEND ENFORCEMENT TARGETS UNSAFE DRIVING

(ORILLIA, ON) – With increased traffic on the roads during the Civic Day long weekend, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling the roads, trails, and waterways in our communities to help keep everyone safe.
Over the weekend, the OPP laid over approximately 8,240 charges related to traffic and marine safety, including:
3,921 speeding charges
579 seatbelt related charges
77 distracted driving charges
188 impaired driving charges
128 charges related to compliance with Ontario’s Move Over Law
Safety is everyone’s responsibility and by making safe and responsible choices, we can all help make our communities safer.
The OPP thanks all drivers and passengers who made safety a top priority this long weekend. Together, we can continue to prevent avoidable tragedies on our roads.
