Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP Seek Public’s Assistance in Distraction Theft

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

    Theft Investigation

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – On June 9, 2025, at approximately 12:15 p.m., members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a distraction theft at the Metro grocery store in Collingwood.

Police received information about an incident involving two male suspects who allegedly stole a wallet from a senior female victim while she was shopping inside the store. The wallet contained personal identification and financial items.

The suspects are described as follows:

    • Suspect 1: Wearing a black baseball cap, white mask, grey sweater, white T-shirt, white shorts, and black shoes.

    • Suspect 2: Wearing a leather jacket, black top with white writing, black pants, and black and white sneakers.

The suspects were observed leaving the scene in a black Mazda SUV.

The investigation indicates that this incident is part of a broader, ongoing pattern of organized distraction thefts targeting vulnerable individuals across the region.

The Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP are seeking public assistance to identify the suspects or the vehicle involved in this incident. Anyone with information, including dash camera or surveillance footage from the area of the Metro grocery store in Collingwood on June 9, 2025, between 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., is asked to contact theCollingwood and Blue Mountains OPP at 705-445-4321 or the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Simcoe Dufferin Muskoka at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com.

In addition, the Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP encourage businesses and residents to register their security cameras with the CamSafe program at www.camsafe.ca. This voluntary registry helps police identify potential video footage during investigations, as seen in recent cases in Collingwood. Police do not have live access to registered cameras, and participants retain full control, providing footage only upon request.
