Collingwood OPP Reports Results of Canada Day Week Traffic Safety Campaign

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has released the results of its enforcement efforts during the Canada Day Week 2025 traffic safety campaign, which ran from June 27 to July 6, 2025.

As part of a province-wide initiative to promote road, trail, and waterway safety during the busy holiday period, Collingwood OPP officers laid a total of 215 charges and issued 166 warnings.

    Key enforcement highlights include:

    • 31 seatbelt-related charges
    • 58 speeding charges
    • 5 impaired driving charges

A targeted enforcement blitz was conducted on Sunday, June 29, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. centred in the Jozo Weider Boulevard area. During this focused operation, officers issued 43 offence notices and laid 1 impaired driving charge. The blitz was part of ongoing efforts to address high-traffic zones and ensure public safety in popular recreational areas.

Officers also laid charges under various other provincial and federal statutes, including the Off-Road Vehicles Act and the Criminal Code of Canada.

The Collingwood OPP continues to observe a noticeable trend in seatbelt violations, with 31 charges laid during the campaign-the third highest total among Central Region detachments. Drivers and passengers are reminded that seatbelt use is a simple but critical step in reducing injuries and saving lives in the event of a collision.

The OPP also reminds the public that impaired driving, speeding, and failure to wear proper safety equipment remain leading causes of serious injuries and fatalities on Ontario’s roads and waterways.
