Dollar Villa Wins Community Builder Award | Community Champions 2025

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

It is our great pleasure at Georgian Bay News to award the prestigious GBN Community Builder Award to Dollar Villa in historic downtown Collingwood.

Well, well, well – it seems our intrepid community scouts have been busy, and boy, do they have stories to tell! It is with genuine warmth and a hefty dose of admiration that Georgian Bay News proudly presents the GBN Community Builder Award to Dollar Villa, that little beacon of hope tucked away in historic downtown Collingwood.

Now, trusty community agents (okay, they’re really just neighbors who love a good chat) have been singing the praises of Azam (L) and Muhammad, local legends, for quite some time. And honestly? We couldn’t be more charmed by what we’ve discovered.

Here’s the thing about true community builders – they don’t keep spreadsheets of good deeds or demand collateral for kindness. When someone stumbles through their door desperately needing a phone card to call home, our Dollar Villa duo doesn’t launch into a credit check. Sometimes folks pay them back, sometimes they don’t. But that phone call? It always goes through.

And don’t even get us started on Christmas! While the rest of us are frantically calculating gift budgets, Azam and Muhammad are quietly making sure local families have something special to unwrap. Do they always see that money again? Well, let’s just say Santa’s accountant would have a few questions. But the smiles on Christmas morning? Those are paid in full.

In a world that often feels like it’s forgotten how to be neighbourly, Dollar Villa reminds us that sometimes the most profound acts of community building happen not in boardrooms or at ribbon cuttings, but in the everyday moments when someone simply says, “Don’t worry about it. We’ll figure it out.”

So here’s to Azam and Muhammad – proof that you don’t need a cape to be heroes, just a heart big enough to see that we’re all in this together.

Congratulations from all of us at Georgian Bay News!

Do you know someone who’s making our Community a better place?

We’d love to hear about the unsung heroes in our community! Whether they’re organizing neighbourhood cleanups, mentoring local kids, or just being the kind of person who makes everyone’s day a little brighter, we want to celebrate them with a Georgian Bay News Community Builder Award.

Think you know someone who deserves recognition? Drop us a line at [email protected] with your nomination and a paragraph telling us what makes them special. Don’t forget to include your phone number so we can follow up!

Sometimes the people doing the most good are the ones who never ask for credit – but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get it.
