Once a haven of the uranium mining industry, Elliot Lake hit the jackpot in the 1950s.

The town was built in record time to house miners and their families, and the infrastructure that a brand new community would need. However by the mid-1990s all the mines were closed and Elliot Lake had become a ghost town. With some smart rebranding the area was touted as the ultimate retirement community – the natural beauty of the landscape and cheap housing proved to be a real draw to folks in the autumn of their life. But life isn’t perfect in Elliot Lake, the aging population are dealing with the aftermath of life in the mines and combined with limited health resources, is the town at its next big crossroads?
