George Watson Announces Candidacy for Collingwood Municipal Council
Fifteen-year councillor brings proven track record of fiscal discipline and community building to Collingwood
COLLINGWOOD, ON — George Watson today announced his candidacy for Collingwood Municipal Council, bringing fifteen years of elected municipal experience and a record of delivering major community infrastructure on time and on budget.
A Proven Track Record
Watson served for fifteen years as an elected councillor in Wasaga Beach, where he chaired the Public Works and Community Services Committee and built a reputation for turning long-term community priorities into completed projects. With Council’s leadership- delivered a new twin-pad arena and library — both completed on time and on budget, demonstrating the kind of fiscal discipline Watson intends to bring to Collingwood.
Watson was also a longtime advocate for a new high school in Wasaga Beach, an effort that took years of persistent council-level advocacy and is now a reality serving local families. He supported council’s decision to have Wasaga Beach serve as a host community for a casino, a move that expanded the municipality’s revenue base and helped support services without placing the burden on property taxpayers.
A Regional Community Builder
Beyond council chambers, Watson has been deeply involved in regional planning and environmental stewardship. He is past Chair of the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority and currently serves on the Simcoe County Planning Advisory Committee — roles that have given him a broad, regional view of growth management, watershed protection, and land-use planning that directly affect communities like Collingwood.
Fiscal Responsibility Without Sacrificing Services
Watson’s record reflects a consistent approach: deliver the infrastructure and services residents need while respecting taxpayers’ ability to pay. His committee leadership on major capital projects — completed on time and on budget — speaks to a disciplined, accountable approach to municipal spending that he plans to bring to Collingwood’s council table.
Quote from George Watson
“Collingwood deserves a council member who knows how to get things built — on time, on budget, and without breaking faith with taxpayers. That’s the record I bring, and it’s the standard I’ll hold myself to if elected.”
