Collingwood, ON [18 June 2025] – The Town of Collingwood welcomes Kate Russell as its newest Poet Laureate, joining a legacy of remarkable literary voices that have shaped the Town’s artistic landscape.
A lifelong writer with a passion for storytelling, Kate has woven her creativity through diverse fields—from journalism and film to museum curation and community development. She lives her life as a poem, using words to capture moments of exploration and reflection, inviting readers to see the world through a poetic lens. As Collingwood’s Poet Laureate, she will continue to inspire, provoke thought, and celebrate the beauty of language in ways that connect and uplift the community.
Kate will serve as Collingwood Poet Laureate for the next three years. This role is an honorary position introduced to elevate poetry, writers and literary arts in the community.
Through poetry the Poet Laureate helps capture the spirit, history and shared experiences of the community. Their contributions not only celebrate the beauty of language but also strengthen community identity, making poetry an accessible and meaningful part of everyday life.
During her term, Kate will appear at events, present work on themes relevant to the residents of Collingwood and utilize poetry and storytelling as a means to help connect and engage the community.
