Jan Ferrigan Announces Candidacy for Collingwood Council

COLLINGWOOD, ON — August 24, 2026 — After 10 years of calling Collingwood home, Jan Ferrigan is putting her experience in community leadership, government, environmental science, technology, and communications to work as a candidate for Collingwood Council in the October 26 municipal election.
“ I love Collingwood, and I want to have a positive impact on its future,” says Ferrigan. “Maybe we’ve met somewhere. You may have seen me at a Rotary event, at the YMCA, Spanish class, or at another community location.”
She is currently President of the Rotary Club of Collingwood and is a friend and supporter of E3 Community Services, BMFA, the Collingwood Writers Collective and other local organizations. She is also a gardener at Free Spirit Community Gardens, a past President of the local BNI chapter, and has written three plays for Gaslight Community Theatre productions.
Her community involvement builds on a career that includes running a web design and digital media business that helps some Collingwood small businesses and organizations improve their online presence. Before coming to Collingwood, Ferrigan worked for local and regional governments in British Columbia and Virginia, served on non-profit boards, and advised county government as a member of the Albemarle County Natural Heritage Committee.
Ferrigan holds a Master of Science in Wildlife Biology, a post-baccalaureate degree in Environmental Science and a microcredential in Sustainability Leadership. Her professional experience spans science, technology, communications, conservation and business.
“I enjoy contributing my skills and ideas to projects that have a meaningful impact. I like inspiring others to get involved,” says Ferrigan. “I also know, for certain, that the best leaders are great team players. Good decisions come from listening to different perspectives, asking thoughtful questions, and working together toward great solutions.”
Ferrigan says her approach to council will be straightforward: show up, bring your values and knowledge, listen, question, inspire, and move forward in the best way possible.
“I want to help Collingwood continue to grow in a way that is thoughtful, sustainable and affordable, while being fiscally responsible and protecting what makes this community special.”
Ferrigan says she supports thoughtful implementation of Collingwood’s plans for growth, sustainability, housing affordability and the community’s future, with an emphasis on practical solutions and meaningful public engagement.
