TOW TRUCK STRUCK WHILE ASSISTING ROADSIDE ON HIGHWAY 11

0

(GRAVENHURST, ON) – The Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a collision involving a transport truck and a tow truck on Highway 11 in Gravenhurst.

On Sunday, January 4, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Highway 11 northbound, just south of Luigi Road in Gravenhurst officers and a tow truck operator were on scene responding to reports of a single vehicle collision. While on scene, the tow truck was struck by a transport truck. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

A 27 year old male from Windsor has been charged with the following:

·        Careless driving

·        Fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle or tow truck

This incident serves as an important reminder of the risks faced by tow‑truck operators, emergency responders, and roadside‑assistance workers who routinely perform their duties in active traffic.

Motorists are urged to follow roadside‑safety practices when approaching stopped vehicles with flashing lights:

·        Slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles, tow trucks, and roadside workers.

·        Increase distance from workers and equipment operating near traffic lanes.

·        Stay alert for changing road and weather conditions.

·        Avoid distractions and give yourself extra time to react when approaching stopped vehicles.

These measures help protect those working to keep Ontario’s roadways safe.

Ice Users to be Aware of Icebreaking Activity in Midland Area

0

(MIDLAND, ON) –  The Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising residents and visitors to North Simcoe of upcoming icebreaking activities by the Canadian Coast Guard.

The CCGS Vincent Massey is expected to carry out icebreaking operations in Georgian Bay in our region on or around January 6, 2026. Please see the attached map for the areas likely to be affected.

It is recommended that all traffic on the ice, including pedestrians, anglers, snowmobilers, and all-terrain vehicle operators, leave the ice during icebreaking operations. The ice may move, creating a real danger for anyone on it.

Additionally, plan activities carefully and use extreme caution after operations are complete as the ice will remain unstable even once the icebreaker has left the area. Remember – NO ICE IS SAFE ICE!

The date are subject to change with no notice, as activities could begin before or after that period, depending on operational requirements or weather conditions.

You’ve never eaten lentils like this before. Better than any meatball!

0

This vegan dish is simply perfect when you’re really craving home-cooked meals, but vegan!

Today I’m showing you my recipe for spicy lentil meatballs with super creamy mashed potatoes and a hearty onion gravy that doesn’t require any meat. I always make this combination when I need a warm, filling, and healthy dish. The lentils provide you with plant-based protein, the mashed potatoes are wonderfully smooth, and the gravy perfectly rounds everything off. You can also easily prepare and freeze the meatballs, making them ideal for meal prep!

📋 INGREDIENTS: For the lentil patties: • 200g brown or green lentils (1 cup uncooked, yields about 2 cups cooked) • 1 small onion, finely chopped • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped • 1 carrot, grated • 2 tbsp oatmeal • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs • 1 tbsp tomato paste • 1 tsp mustard • Salt, pepper, paprika • Oil for frying For the mashed potatoes: • 600g floury potatoes (about 1.3 lbs / 4 cups roughly diced) • 100ml oat or soy milk (about ⅓ cup + 1 tbsp) • 1-2 tbsp vegan butter • Salt, nutmeg For the onion sauce: • 2 onions • 1 tbsp flour • 250ml vegetable broth (approx. 1 cup) • 1 tsp soy sauce • Oil, salt, pepper

I hope you enjoy making this recipe, and if you like, please let me know how it turned out in the comments 💚
