OPERATOR OF PERSONAL WATERCRAFT ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED

(WASAGA BEACH, ON) – Members of the Collingwood & Blue Mountains OPP while conducting marine patrol on Georgian Bay in Wasaga Beach arrested the operator of a personal watercraft for operation while impaired.

On June 23, 2025, shortly after 3:30 p.m., members of the Collingwood & Blue Mountains OPP Marine Unit were conducting compliance checks for lifejackets and safety equipment of vessels and personal watercrafts. While interacting with the operator of a personal watercraft on the Nottawasaga River in Wasaga Beach an open container of alcohol was observed. At which point officers commenced an impaired investigation The male was arrested and transported to Huronia West detachment for a breath test where it was determined his blood to alcohol impairment level was nearly twice the legal limit.

A 37 year-old male from Wasaga Beach was charged with:

·      Adult Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)

·      Adult Operation while Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs

·      Adult Having care or control of a boat underway with open container of liquor (LLCA)

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice located in Collingwood on July 15, 2025, to answer to the charges. Vessel operators who are charged with impaired driving offences face the same consequence as those operating motor vehicles, including an immediate 90-day drivers license suspension.
