Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were tasked with investigating three vehicle upsets which resulted in charges for involved drivers.

Officers on foot patrol responded at approximately 11:00 p.m. September 29, 2025, after observing a single motorcycle upset in the sand while being operated on the beach front at Little Lake Park, Midland.

The driver and motorcycle were located and officers entered into a drinking and driving investigation upon speaking with the lone driver. As a result of this investigation, 48 year old Midland resident Timothy DEMPSEY was issued a Three Day drivers licence suspension in relation to Blood/Alcohol concentration level (ADLS) and further was charged criminally with – Operation While Prohibited under the Criminal Code and further with – Obstruct Peace Officer. Additional charges of Careless driving and Driving while under suspension and lastly with Engage in prohibited activity on premises all under the Provincial Offences Act.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 23, 2025. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the involved vehicle was impounded for more than 7 days under ADLS guidelines.

A two vehicle crash at approximately 8:04 p.m. September 30, 2025, at the intersection of Concession Road 6 of Tiny Township at Simcoe County Road 6 between a east bound delivery van and a north bound SUV resulted in a trip to an area hospital for the 28 year old Barrie resident operating the delivery van for treatment of serious but non life threatening injuries. The intersection related crash is still under investigation.

A single vehicle crash on Awenda Park Road within Awenda Provincial Park has resulted in criminal driving charges for a 43 year old resident of The Blue Mountains after an OPP investigation was commenced at approximately 7:29 p.m. September 30, 2025. Officers and Park Wardens attended the scene and located the driver a short distance away facedown at a nearby campsite commencing their investigation resulting in charges of – Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and further a Liquor offence of – Being intoxicated in public place for Timothy PALMER.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on October 13, 2025. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the involved vehicle was impounded for 7 days under ADLS guidelines.

The investigation continues into a fourth serious personal injury crash involving an ATV that struck a parked car on Cherry Street, Waubaushene on September 28, 2025.

Everyone has a role to play in keeping our roads safe. The OPP reminds the public that impaired driving-whether on roads, trails, or waterways-puts lives at risk. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 9-1-1 immediately.
