OPP Urge Easter Road Safety and Target Impaired Driving

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

(COLLINGWOOD/THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON) – As the Easter long weekend begins, the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) urges all motorists to prioritize road safety and make responsible choices behind the wheel. With increased traffic expected, our officers are dedicated to reducing impaired driving and ensuring our roads remain safe for everyone.

Impaired driving remains a leading cause of preventable collisions in Ontario. We are committed to taking alcohol- and drug-impaired drivers off our roads through proactive enforcement and public education. Our officers will be out in full force this weekend, conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checks to keep our communities safe. Plan ahead-arrange a designated driver, use public transit, or call a taxi if you plan to consume alcohol or drugs.

This commitment is demonstrated by our recent efforts through the 2024-2025 Provincial R.I.D.E. Grant program. From April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, the Town of The Blue Mountains and the Town of Collingwood jointly enhanced R.I.D.E. initiatives. The program supported 185 officer hours, resulting in 1,419 vehicle stops. These efforts showcase our hardworking approach to road safety.

We are proud of the work our officers have done, but we need the public’s help. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 9-1-1 immediately. Together, we can prevent tragedies.

    We remind motorists to:

    • Never drive impaired by alcohol or drugs.
    • Plan a safe ride home before consuming impairing substances.
    • Report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
    • Buckle up, avoid distractions, and obey speed limits for a safe long weekend.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Let’s make this Easter long weekend safe and enjoyable for all.
