The Blue Mountains Invites Residents to “Pitch-In” for Earth Week

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

The Town of The Blue Mountains encourages members of the community to participate in Pitch-In Canada Week, taking place from April 21 to April 27, 2025!

Pitch-In Canada Week encourages participants of all ages to pick up litter from parks, trails, shorelines and public spaces throughout their community during the week of Earth Day. Each year, Earth Day takes place on April 22 to raise awareness and motivate action on environmental issues.

Community clean-up events are planned during Pitch-In Week, including:

    • Clarksburg Village Association is hosting their annual Spring Cleanup, taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at Lion’s Park in Clarksburg.
    • Climate Action Now Network and Beaver Valley Outreach are hosting an Earth Week community clean-up on Saturday, April 26 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., meeting at the east side of Town Hall.

All clean-ups encourage bringing gloves, garbage bags, and a Ziplock bag for cigarette butt collection. Participants of all ages are welcome!

“Let’s come together as a community to make a difference this Earth Week,” says Mayor Andrea Matrosovs. “I look forward to participating in our Pitch-In events each year and hope to see many of our neighbours across The Blue Mountains joining in to help keep our communities free of litter! I am proud of the community effort during Pitch-In Canada Week, whether in larger gatherings or smaller neighbourhood efforts – it all makes an important difference.”

Free Pitch-In branded waste collection bags are also available at Town Hall while supplies last. Once filled, waste collection bags can be placed curbside on your normal collection day. The bags will be collected free of charge, with no garbage tags necessary.

The Town also encourages Pitch-In Canada Week participants to separate any refundable containers from the collected litter, including wine, liquor and beer bottles, beer cans, plastic milk jugs and Millers Milk glass bottles, and deliver these materials to the Bottles for BVO apple bin located at the Beaver Valley Outreach, or The Blue Mountains Landfill and Recycling Depot. For more information, please visit the Beaver Valley Outreach website.

Download the Ontario Public Litter Cleanup Guide for information on how to collect litter safely.
