(THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON) – Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in collaboration with local fuel providers and community partners, successfully ensured the continued operation of a major radio cell tower following a severe storm that disrupted power in the region.
On Saturday, March 29, 2025, a storm bringing freezing rain caused widespread power outages and affected local infrastructure. A key radio cell tower, relied upon for important communications in the area, was operating on its backup generator. By Wednesday, with fuel levels running low, action was needed to keep it running smoothly.
The Collingwood & The Blue Mountains OPP coordinated with a local fuel company and community partners to address the situation quickly and effectively. Despite the challenges of downed trees, a path was cleared and the generator refueled, ensuring the tower remained operational without interruption. This effort highlights the strong teamwork and cohesion in our community, showing a shared commitment to keeping residents safe and supported.
The OPP extends its appreciation to Bird Fuel of Collingwood, and all involved for their contributions. Police continue to monitor the area and assist with power restoration efforts.
