Weather Event Update – Friday, April 4

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

The Town would like to provide an update regarding the recent weather events. Crews have been working to restore power, open roads, fix drainage issues and clear debris throughout the municipality.

The Municipal Emergency Control Group has been meeting throughout the week and is coordinating efforts with Hydro One, Grey County, the Blue Mountains Fire Department and The Blue Mountains OPP to support power restoration plans and recovery efforts. Fire Department staff continue to ensure that emergency access to residents is maintained.

In the event of an emergency, please dial 9-1-1

Current Road Closures (3:45 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025)

    • Grey Road 119 remains closed from Banks (4th Line) to the bottom of the hill on Scenic Caves Road. Access to Swiss Meadows is currently limited to local traffic only through Grey Road 119 from the south as Hydro One crews continue work on the Scenic Caves Hill.
    • The 12th Sideroad is closed between the 3rd Line and the 4th Line.

Multiple roads in the municipality have been reduced to one lane due to downed trees, downed wires or flooding. Crews continue to work to restore access and clear debris.

    Power Outage Updates

Town Staff continue to be in contact with representatives from Hydro One. Hydro One has advised that some residents may continue to be without power for the upcoming weekend, but crews are working to restore access.

    Waste Collection

The landfill is currently without power and will open on Saturday, April 5, with limited capacity. Staff will be on-site to receive yard waste, tree debris and brush. Until power is restored, any pay items will be cash only.

To assist with debris removal from homes that may have experienced flooding or other storm-related damage, garbage bag tags will not be required for the week of April 7 – 11. The 3-bag limit for residential and 2-bag limit for commercial locations is still in effect. The Town Landfill and Recycling Depot at 788090 Grey Road 13 is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for drop-off of waste and debris.

The Town asks that residents do not place brush debris from private property on the roadside. Yard waste and debris, such as broken trees and limbs, can be delivered to the Town Landfill Depot free of charge during operating hours or managed on private property.

    Additional Precautions

The Blue Mountains Fire Department would like to provide the following reminders:

    • Residents who have had their power restored after an extended period should check devices that may have been on before the outage, such as space heaters, stoves and ovens.
    • Hardwired carbon monoxide detectors may not operate properly during an outage.
    • Portable generators, barbecues or other fume-emitting devices should never be used indoors.
    • In the event of a multi-day outage, check on your neighbours to ensure their well-being.

    More Information

Town crews are continuing to coordinate with relevant emergency services and will respond to service calls on a priority basis. Updates will continue to be provided as the Town receives information.
