✅ A Message of Respect for Our Municipal Candidates | GEORGIANBAYNEWS.COM

To everyone who put their name forward in this municipal election: thank you.

Stepping up to run for local office takes courage. You opened yourselves to public scrutiny, gave up evenings and weekends, knocked on doors, answered tough questions, and put your ideas and reputations on the line, all because you care about your community. That deserves respect, no matter the outcome.

Municipal government is where decisions hit closest to home: our roads, our parks, our services, our neighbourhoods. The people who offer to serve at this level do so knowing the pay is modest, the hours are long, and the criticism can be loud. They do it anyway.

It’s also true that elections can cost us good people. Some capable, dedicated candidates won’t be elected, and some experienced councillors who served faithfully will step away or lose their seats. Sometimes the best person for the job simply doesn’t get the votes, and our community is poorer for losing their voice around the table. We should never take that lightly, and we should never assume that a result reflects the worth of the person behind it.

To those who won: congratulations, and thank you for taking on the responsibility. To those who didn’t: your effort mattered. You raised issues, sharpened the debate, and showed your neighbours what public service looks like. We hope you’ll stay involved, because our community needs you.

Win or lose, thank you for stepping forward.
