Midhurst/April 29, 2026 – Earlier today, Georgian Village celebrated the official opening of its new pickleball court, a vibrant addition designed to support active living, social connection, and overall well-being for older adults. The event featured a ceremonial “First Serve”, marking an exciting milestone for the campus.
Proposed as part of the County’s Positive Aging Strategy, the new court enhances Georgian Village’s already impressive range of recreational opportunities. It is expected to become a hub for physical activity, mentorship, and community connection. Pickleball continues to grow in popularity among older adults thanks to its accessibility, low impact nature, and proven health benefits, including improved mobility, cardiovascular fitness, and mental wellbeing.
The court will be open seven days a week, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for residents across the campus and members of the community aged 60+, offering opportunities for recreation, friendly competition, and social engagement. For those who prefer to watch and connect with neighbours, new bench seating ensures everyone can be part of the lively atmosphere.
“This new pickleball court is more than a recreational space. It’s an investment in the health, socialization, and well‑being of older adults in our community,” said Warden Basil Clarke. “Georgian Village continues to show leadership in creating environments where seniors can stay active, engaged, and remain socially connected.”
Funding for this project was partially provided through a onetime grant from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

About the Age-Friendly Positive Aging Strategy
Since 2015, Simcoe County has aligned with the World Health Organization’s Age-Friendly Communities framework to guide the development of its Positive Aging Strategy. The first strategy (2018–2023) laid the foundation for age-friendly infrastructure, planning, services, and programs across the region. Building on years of research, community engagement, and shared priorities, the County recently unveiled its revitalized Positive Aging Strategy (2025–2030) following a comprehensive needs assessment in 2023. This forward-thinking plan continues to promote programs and services that enhance quality of life for aging residents.
