(Collingwood, ON) – On June 23, 2026, members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from officers from the Nottawasaga and Grey Bruce detachments and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO), conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) enforcement initiative in the Town of The Blue Mountains.

During the initiative, officers conducted inspections to ensure compliance with provincial and federal legislation, as well as Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) standards.

A total of 24 commercial motor vehicles were inspected, with 14 vehicles placed out of service due to significant defects. Officers also conducted Mandatory Alcohol Screenings, with no drivers found to be impaired.

As a result of the enforcement effort, officers laid a total of 65 charges and issued numerous warnings for various offences, including:

  • Improper class of driver’s licence
  • Operating without a Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR)
  • Defective or improper braking systems
  • Improper tires
  • Failure to surrender CVOR, Schedule 1, and daily pre-trip inspection reports
  • Failure to complete annual vehicle inspections
  • Insecure loads
  • Violations of registered gross weight
  • Operating a commercial motor vehicle without proper company identification
  • Transportation of dangerous goods violations, including insecure loads, missing shipping documents, lack of training, and improper labelling
  • Overloaded tires and axles

Road safety remains a top priority for both the OPP and MTO. Enforcement and inspection initiatives such as this will continue throughout the year to ensure commercial vehicles operating on Ontario roadways are safe and compliant.
