Collingwood OPP Investigating Suspicious Incident and Recovery of Stolen SUV

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a suspicious incident reported in a residential neighbourhood that led to the recovery of a stolen SUV in the early morning hours of July 23, 2025.

At approximately 12:47 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious person checking vehicles in the Lockhart subdivision of Collingwood. A male suspect was observed exiting a Dodge Durango and inspecting a parked vehicle with a flashlight before leaving the area.

Shortly after, officers located the suspect vehicle travelling eastbound on Stanley Street. The vehicle failed to stop for police and fled at a high rate of speed. Multiple OPP units from Collingwood and Huronia West Detachments engaged in coordinated patrols to locate the vehicle.

At approximately 1:26 a.m., officers located the suspect vehicle and deployed a spike belt on Highway 26 near Cullham Road, which successfully deflated the vehicle’s tires. Following the stop, the occupant(s) exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

A coordinated search of the area was conducted with assistance from the OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT). At this time, the suspect(s) remain outstanding and the investigation is ongoing.

The vehicle, identified as a 2023 Dodge Durango, was confirmed to be stolen from York Region. It was secured for forensic processing as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the Collingwood OPP has taken over the investigation. Officers are actively canvassing the area for video footage, including residential and commercial security systems and doorbell-style cameras.

The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP encourage residents and businesses to register their security cameras with the CAMSafe program at www.camsafe.ca. This voluntary registry helps police identify potential sources of video evidence during investigations. Police do not have live access to registered cameras, and participants retain full control, providing footage only upon request.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca or by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
