Drugs and Alcohol Lead to Weekend OPP Impaired Driving Investigations

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

(MIDLAND, ON)- Two separate impaired driving investigations over the weekend by OPP, one by alcohol, one by drugs point to the fact that driving while impaired by drug or alcohol or both is impaired driving.

An officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) while on patrol at approximately 10:46 p.m. August 9, 2025, came across a vehicle parked in a retail parking lot of Heritage Drive, Midland with a lone occupant who upon checking had a quantity of cannabis readily available. A further investigation led the officer to enter into an impaired by drug investigation and transported the driver to detachment for further investigation with the assistance of an OPP officer trained as a drug recognition expert (DRE).

As a result of this investigation 41 year old Meina KIROLLOS of Ajax has been charged criminally with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on September 4, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

At 2:16 a.m. August 9, 2025, officers on patrol tended to a vehicle that was attempting to reverse out of a retail parking lot on Hugel Avenue, Midland upon the officers approach. The lone occupant was spoken to by officers and a drinking and driving investigation was commenced resulting in a further investigation at Detachment.

As a result, 31 year old Luke DOYLE of Tay Township has been charged criminally with the offences of Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and further with Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice  on September 21, 2025, and was also served a 90 day drivers licence suspension. The involved vehicle was towed and subject to a 7 day vehicle impound in accordance to the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you know or suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, call 9-1-1. In doing so, you may save a life.  The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead and to use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements. Enforcement and education is essential to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways.
