Collingwood, ON [13 August 2025] The Town of Collingwood is inviting the community to help name its newest waterfront public space, at 12 Sidelaunch Way! This exciting addition is part of the Shipyards Public Realm Plan, and will provide a key pedestrian connection between downtown and the waterfront.The site, along Sidelaunch Way, has played many roles in Collingwood’s rich history; from a bustling transportation and industrial hub to a four-season recreation destination.
In 1872, a railway line between Collingwood and Meaford ran through the property. Between 1883 and 1986, it was home to offices for the Northern Navigation Company, which operated passenger and freight ships across the Great Lakes. Later, the Collingwood Shipyards used the building as a drafting office, contributing to the Town’s proud shipbuilding legacy.
As the area evolves into a new, public access space for the community, it needs a name that reflects its rich past, present, and future.
