A nation looking south – Trump, US relations and economic concerns shape the political landscape.
Latest Nanos weekly federal political tracking
Canada’s federal political landscape remains relatively settled, with the Liberals maintaining a substantial advantage over their rivals. Federal ballot tracking places Liberal support at 48.8%, ahead of the Conservatives at 29.5%, while the NDP stands at 11.1%. The Bloc Québécois, Greens and People’s Party continue to attract more modest levels of support.

Alongside the ballot numbers, Mark Carney remains the leading choice for prime minister, holding a wide lead over Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre. The gap between the two continues to define the broader federal political environment.
Issue tracking suggests that Canadians remain focused on external pressures and economic challenges. Donald Trump and Canada-U.S. relations continue to rank as the country’s foremost national concern, although the intensity of concern has eased somewhat in recent weeks. Jobs and the economy rank second, while inflation remains among the leading issues cited by Canadians. Healthcare, the environment, immigration, national unity and national security round out the list of top concerns.
Taken together, the findings point to a political environment shaped by economic considerations and cross-border developments, with voting intentions showing little sign of a major shift and the governing Liberals continuing to hold a clear advantage in national opinion measures.
