(ORILLIA, ON) – Throughout the long weekend, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) focused on behaviours that continue to contribute to serious and fatal collisions, including impaired driving, inattentive driving, speeding and improper use of or failure to wear seatbelts.
Between October 9 and October 12, the OPP laid over 9,800 traffic-related charges including:
- 4,924 speeding
- 506 seatbelt
- 174 impaired driving
- 108 distracted driving
This weekend’s traffic safety initiative was part of Operation Impact, an annual national campaign led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police to help improve road safety across Canada.
The OPP thanks everyone who acted responsibly and helped contribute to safer roads during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. The OPP encourages all motorists to keep making safety a priority every time they get behind a wheel.
