A locally built guide to more than 100 restaurants, events and deals within 30 minutes of Collingwood — now free on iPhone and Android.

COLLINGWOOD, ONT. Collingwood Eats, a locally built restaurant and events app for the South Georgian Bay area, is now available free on the App Store and Google Play.

The app pulls together information that is currently scattered across half a dozen places — hours that may or may not be current, an Instagram story with tonight’s special, a tourism calendar, a restaurant’s own website — and puts it on one screen, updated daily.

Collingwood Eats covers more than 100 restaurants, pubs, cafés and breweries within a 30-minute drive of Collingwood, including Thornbury, Blue Mountain and Craigleith, Wasaga Beach, Stayner, Meaford, Creemore and Singhampton.

“We built this because we kept having the same conversation at five o’clock on a Friday. Somebody asks where we should go, and then three people are on three different phones checking three different things — and half of it is out of date anyway. That is a solvable problem, and nobody had solved it for this area.”

What the app does

Open right now. See which kitchens are actually serving in the next 90 minutes — not hours last updated two seasons ago.

Tonight’s deals and events. Wing nights, prix fixe, live music, trivia and markets, organised by the day they actually run.

Filters that matter here. Heated patios, four-season igloos and walk-up bars are filtered separately, alongside dog-friendly and family-friendly.

A built-in concierge. Ask in plain language — “somewhere quiet for a date night, still open at nine” — by typing or by voice.

Plans with friends. Tap “on my way” to tell your group where you are headed, and save lists for date nights and visiting family.

Notifications are optional and off by default. When a user turns them on, the app only sends alerts about venues they have saved.

Built for the area, not adapted to it

Collingwood Eats is independent and built locally. Listings are compiled from venues’ own websites and social accounts, checked before publication, and correctable by owners and diners. Restaurant owners can claim their listing at no cost.

The app does not track users or sell personal data. It is free to download and free to use.

“The goal is that people eat out here more often, and that more of those dollars land at independent places. A better night out for locals, and more covers for the people cooking.”
