(Town of the Blue Mountains, ON) – Members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the Technical Collision Investigators and Collision Reconstruction team are investigating a collision involving a motor vehicle and cyclist.

On January 9, 2025 just after 7:00 pm Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP with assistance of Grey County Paramedics responded to a report of a serious collision where a cyclist had been struck by a motor vehicle on Highway 26 between the Eleventh Line and Tenth Line in Thornbury.

Sadly, as result of the collision, a 59 year-old was confirmed deceased by a Doctor at Meaford Hospital. The involved motorist has been co-operative with police during the investigation.

A section of Highway 26 has been closed for several hours between the Eleventh Line and Tenth Line.

    The investigation is ongoing.

The OPP is requesting that if anyone was in the area during the time of the collision and has any information, dash cam or surveillance footage that may assist investigators, to please call Collingwood OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

    1. As a cyclist, such sad news of yet another passing always grieves me. Reciprocally, also as a driver, when I see cyclists after sunset with no lighting on their bikes, I understand how easily these fatal accidents can occur.
John, (the specifics of this particular case may not be one of lights on that particular bike) but perhaps the provincial government could work with school boards on posters in schools reminding kids that drivers simply can’t see them fast enough if they don’t have lights on their bikes.
More reminders may save valuable lives.
