(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal vehicle collision involving a snowmobile in Springwater Township.

On January 14, 2025, at approximately 7:11 p.m., members of the Huronia West OPP with assistance of Springwater Fire and Simcoe County EMS responded to a report of a serious collision involving a snowmobile struck by a truck on George Johnston Road.

Poor visibility due to heavy snowfall and wind were factors in the collision. Sadly, as a result of the collision, a 22-year-old male driver from Utopia was confirmed deceased on scene by EMS. The driver of the other vehicle was released at the scene with no injuries.

A section of George Johnston Road was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.

    The investigation is ongoing.

The OPP is requesting that if anyone was in the area during the time of the collision and has any information, dash cam or surveillance footage that may assist investigators, to please call Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
