(SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP, ON) – The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal vehicle collision involving a snowmobile in Springwater Township.

On January 14, 2025, at approximately 7:11 p.m., members of the Huronia West OPP with assistance of Springwater Fire and Simcoe County EMS responded to a report of a serious collision involving a snowmobile struck by a truck on George Johnston Road.

Poor visibility due to heavy snowfall and wind were factors in the collision. Sadly, as a result of the collision, a 22-year-old male driver from Utopia was confirmed deceased on scene by EMS. The driver of the other vehicle was released at the scene with no injuries.

A section of George Johnston Road was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.
