JC MacDonald 🎯 The Cowboys Stampede Tent Story

Many of my FB friends reside outside Alberta. This is my attempt at a non-biased summary of the Cowboys Stampede tent story.
Millennium Park, a downtown greenspace, was removed and replaced with a Stampede tent venue. The park provided a place for skateboarding and overall chilling in the downtown area for residents and downtown office workers. Many Calgarians reside in the downtown core, and were never consulted about the removal of a greenspace to or replaced with something commercial. The former greenspace is now used for a Stampede tent (Cowboys) hosting concerts. There’s more to it, but I’m sticking to a non-biased summary.
The municipality (City of Calgary) notified the Cowboys owners in February noise restrictions are incoming. The reason is the municipality received multiple calls every night during Stampede about the partying going well past midnight. Along with noise complaints involving concerts going past bylaw ordinance were sleep interruption, public intoxication, urination and defecation, altercations with impaired attendees and vandalism.
The vast majority of Calgarians side with the municipality addressing some of these problems. The municipality introduced noise restrictions requiring earlier sound level reductions. Fines of $400 (I may be incorrect about the amount) already exist for noise violations.
A large reason why this story went national is that the Premier and the CPC opposition leader have gotten involved and expressed support for the Cowboys venue. The Premier is threatening the municipality that they may step in to assist in resolution. As of this writing, I’ve not read anything from either the Premier or the CPC opposition leader about the concerns of Calgarians living in proximity.
