New Veterans Crosswalk Unveiled at the Collingwood Museum to Honour Service and Sacrifice
Collingwood, ON [14 September 2026] The Town of Collingwood, in partnership with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63, is proud to announce the installation of a new Veterans Crosswalk at the Collingwood Museum, creating a meaningful connection between the Museum grounds and the Collingwood Cenotaph across Veterans Crescent.
The project comes during a significant year for the Royal Canadian Legion, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026.
The Legion was officially incorporated by an Act of Parliament on July 17, 1926, and has spent the past century supporting Veterans, serving military members and their families, promoting remembrance, and strengthening communities across Canada. This year also marks the 100th anniversaries of both the Collingwood Ladies’ Auxiliary and Collingwood Legion Branch 63, highlighting a century of local service, volunteerism, and community support in Collingwood.
Inspired by a crosswalk in Chatham-Kent, the Collingwood Veterans Crosswalk honours. The design recognizes not only those who made the ultimate sacrifice, but also the many service members who returned home changed.
The crosswalk’s location holds special significance. The Collingwood Museum, formerly the community’s railway station, was a place of departure for many local men and women who answered the call to serve Canada. Generations of service members began their journey from this historic site, making it a fitting location for a tribute that connects the community’s past with its ongoing commitment to remembrance.
“The Veterans Crosswalk is a powerful symbol of remembrance and gratitude,” said Anthony Griffiths, Collingwood Legion President. “It honours the courage, sacrifice, and service of Veterans from our community and across Canada while recognizing the important role the Legion continues to play in supporting Veterans and preserving their stories.”
“As we mark the Legion’s centennial year, this crosswalk provides a meaningful way for residents and visitors alike to pause, reflect, and remember those who served,” said Griffiths.
The announcement coincides with National Legion Week, taking place September 20 to 26, 2026. National Legion Week celebrates the important role local Legion branches play in supporting Veterans, promoting remembrance, serving communities, and welcoming new members and volunteers. The week gives Canadians a chance to learn more about the Legion’s work and its ongoing mission of service.
The community is invited to attend the official Veterans Crosswalk Dedication ceremony.
