OPP Investigating Suspicious Fire in Collingwood

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Members of the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a suspicious fire that occurred in the early morning hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, at a commercial property located in the East end of Collingwood, ON.

At approximately 3:08 a.m., the OPP received a request for assistance from the Collingwood Fire Department regarding an active fire at a business located on Sandford Fleming Drive. Officers attended the scene to assist with traffic control and road closures.

Initial reports indicated that the fire originated in a storage shed located at the northeast corner of the property. At the time, the cause was considered non-suspicious.

Later that morning, at approximately 7:04 a.m., officers re-attended the scene after fire officials discovered surveillance footage that raised concerns about the cause of the fire. The incident is now being treated as suspicious.

The estimated damage to the property is approximately $1,000,000. The Ontario Fire Marshal was notified in accordance with standard protocol. Following a review of the circumstances, it was determined that attendance by the OFM was not required at this time. The Collingwood OPP Crime Unit is actively investigating and following up on all leads as part of an ongoing effort to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit information online at www.crimestopperssdm.com.

In addition, the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP encourage residents and businesses to register their security cameras with the CAMSafe program at www.camsafe.ca. This voluntary registry assists police in identifying potential sources of video evidence during investigations, as demonstrated in recent cases in Collingwood. Police do not have live access to registered cameras, and participants retain full control, providing footage only upon request.
