SIU INVOKES MANDATE IN COLLINGWOOD

Charges Laid

(COLLINGWOOD, ON) – Charges have been laid in connection with an incident in which the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate in Collingwood.

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Rhonda Road. As a result of the police interaction, the SIU invoked its mandate.

Following the police investigation, Ronald MITCHELL, 50 years old of Collingwood, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon or causing bodily harm, section 270.01(1)(a) – two counts
  • Pointing a firearm, section 87
  • Possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88
  • Mischief endangering life, section 430(2)

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on June 4, 2025.

The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
