The Flatiron Building was gutted to its skeleton. Staircase, elevators, walls – gone.
But the landmarked exterior had to stay standing. To save it, they destroyed almost everything inside. Then they had to build a new Flatiron inside the old one. That meant going back 120 years to how the Flatiron was built the first time.
