Meet Mochi (Underdog)

Mochi (Underdog) is a 1 year, 8 months old male Small Mixed Breed who weighs 4 kilograms and has been with us for 52 days.
Hi, I’m Mochi! I’m a 1.5-year-old, 9-lb little guy, which means I’m basically the perfect size for someone looking for a cute, fun, engaging little dog.
I enjoy long-leash walks in open fields, a good game of tug, and hanging out with my people. I’m young, adorable and have plenty of personality. I’m also going to be honest with you: I come with a few quirks.
I’m looking for an adult-only home (18+) with someone who understands that trust takes time and is willing to work with me at my own pace. I can be protective of things I think are important – like my food, special items, and my favourite resting spots – so I need people who will respect my space and let me finish my meals and relax undisturbed. I do best when my people call me away rather than reaching toward me when I’m settled.
My biggest project is getting comfortable with my leash and harness being removed. I may growl or snap if someone tries to take them off before I’m ready. My foster family has made great progress by letting me come to them first, using an “out” cue, and avoiding grabbing my collar. Predictability and patience have made a huge difference for me.
I can also be vocal when left alone (although I do settle) and sometimes have opinions about household noises. On walks, I can be reactive toward other dogs, so I’ll need someone who is comfortable managing that and helping me succeed. I’m selective about my dog friends, although I have lived peacefully with another small dog in foster care. Slow introductions are a must. My history with cats is unknown, so careful introductions and management would also be important. If you have another dog at home please bring them with you to meet me to make sure we get along!
I’m also working on my house manners and do best with a crate when left alone, with crate time increased gradually.
I’m part of the GTHS Underdog Program, which means my humans have identified some behaviours that my new family and I will need to work on together. The good news is that the GTHS team will provide plenty of information and resources to help us get started.
Because it is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month my Underdog adoption fee is $50 and includes my spay/neuter, up to date vaccinations, de-wormer and a microchip. If you want to learn more about me, please come visit the GTHS and speak with one of the amazing Adoption Counsellors! The GTHS is open for adoptions from 12pm-4:00pm, every single day of the week and they would be thrilled to introduce you to me! I can’t wait to meet you and am looking forward to starting my new life with my new family!

❤️ Our resident chaos coordinator, “Frankie Malloy” is staging another animal-pocalypse. Enjoy the video!
Amidst the huge, breathtaking landscapes of America’s National Parks, the greatest treasures of all may be the smallest. But as cute as wild babies can be, many animals born in the Parks will never reach their first birthday. Wild moms and dads must protect the National Parks’ tiniest residents – and teach them critical life skills during their dangerous first year of life.
Meet Celino

Celino is a 3 years, 5 months old male Domestic Shorthair/Mix cat who weighs 4 kilograms and has been with us for 8 days.
Hi, I’m Celino – a handsome little mystery who just needs a little (okay, maybe a lot) of time to figure you out!
I’m 3 years old, and I’m a shy guy who takes life at my own pace. Settling into a new home will be a very slow process for me, and I’ll need lots of patience, understanding, and time before I feel comfortable enough to let my personality shine. I may spend quite a while hiding and observing from a safe distance, so please don’t expect me to become your new best friend overnight. Trust takes time, and I’ll need you to let me move at my own speed.
Tasty treats, a calm voice, and a peaceful environment will help me start building a friendship with you. My cozy hidey houses are very important to me, too. Everyone needs a safe little headquarters while they figure out the world!
The good news? I absolutely love other cats! Having a confident, friendly feline companion in my new home may help me feel more secure and show me that my new surroundings aren’t so scary after all. A kitty friend could be a wonderful source of comfort as I adjust.
My ideal home is a calm, quiet place with people who understand that helping a shy cat settle in is a marathon, not a sprint. Older kids (10+) may be a better fit, provided they understand that I need gentle interactions and plenty of space.
I may take a long time to feel at home, but with patience, kindness, and perhaps a feline friend by my side, I can continue to build confidence at my own pace. I’m looking for someone who will celebrate the little milestones, respect my boundaries, and understand that progress doesn’t always happen overnight.
If you have a patient heart, a peaceful home, and maybe a friendly kitty who could show me the ropes, I’d love the chance to meet you. Bring some tasty treats, give me time, and let’s see where our friendship takes us!
My adoption fee is $225, and it includes everything I need to go home with you-my spay/neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, internal and external parasite treatments, and a microchip ID. Want to learn more about me? Come visit me at the GTHS and chat with one of our amazing Adoption Counsellors! We are open for adoptions every day from 12:00-4:00 pm.
