Your Voice Matters: Get Ready to Vote in the 2026 Municipal Election

From the roads we travel to the places we hike, the water we enjoy, and the natural areas that make South Georgian Bay special, municipal decisions shape our communities every day. The next Ontario municipal election is Monday, October 26, 2026. Whether you are a year-round resident or spend part of the year in South Georgian Bay, make sure you know whether you are eligible to vote and that your name is on the voters’ list.

Who can vote? You must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old. If you live in a municipality, you may qualify as a resident elector. If you live elsewhere but own or rent property in a South Georgian Bay municipality, you may also qualify as a non-resident elector. Your spouse may also qualify.

Some municipalities have made some voter registration changes this year for property owners not listed as primary residents so it is important to check in advance.

Not sure if you’re registered? You can check your information through Ontario’s voter registration service: https://vreg.registertovoteon.ca/

If you are a seasonal resident, don’t assume you aren’t eligible to vote. Check your eligibility with your municipality and make sure your voice is counted.

Upcoming All-Candidates Meetings

Join the ECA, and other environmental community groups, for one of our Municipal All-Candidates Meetings taking place across our region ahead of this fall’s municipal election. These five community events are an opportunity to hear directly from local candidates, learn about their priorities, and better understand the issues that will shape the future of our communities.

Community members will have the opportunity to hear candidates respond to thoughtfully selected questions focused on the issues and priorities that matter most to our community, in an open and respectful forum. We encourage everyone to attend, become informed, and participate in the democratic process. All are welcome! No RSVP required.
