🇨🇦 NANOS: Balancing the Books and the Ballot Box

🇨🇦 NANOS: Balancing the Books and the Ballot Box

Canada’s public mood this week reflected a mix of economic, political and policy considerations. Trade relations with the United States remained a prominent issue, with perceptions of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s handling of the file improving while broader confidence measures showed continued sensitivity to uncertainty surrounding Canada-U.S. relations.

Economic pressures also remained evident. Many younger Canadians reported feeling the effects of rising living costs, highlighting affordability as an ongoing concern. At the same time, findings pointed to continued public reservations about pay-for-priority health care, with opposition remaining stronger than support.

In Quebec, the Parti Québécois held a narrow lead in voting intentions, suggesting a competitive political environment as the provincial campaign continues. Nationally, concern related to Donald Trump and the United States continued to register as a notable public issue, reinforcing the influence of external developments on Canadian political discussions.

Beyond politics and economics, Canadians expressed increasing support for requiring streaming services to contribute to Canadian content production. Research on entrepreneurship also suggested that many young Canadians are interested in starting businesses, although access to financial resources remains a significant challenge.
