(CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members from the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid charges after a motorist fled from police.   

On Friday, May 15, 2026, shortly after 3:00 pm, Huronia West officers began a traffic investigation on Highway 26 when the vehicle, a white pickup truck, failed to stop for police. A spike belt was utilized and caused damage to the vehicle, which was later located in a parking lot on Bayfield Street in the City of Barrie. With the assistance of Barrie Police Service, the driver of the vehicle was arrested.

As a result of the investigation Tyson CROSS, 23-years-old from Peterborough, was charged with several offences, including the below Criminal Code offences:  

·        Dangerous operation

·        Flight from peace officer

·        Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

·        Unauthorized possession of weapon

·        Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

The accused was held in custody to appear for a bail hearing on Saturday, May 16, 2026. 

The OPP reminds all motorists to prioritize safe and responsible driving at all times. Obey posted speed limits, remain attentive, and never engage in behaviours that could put yourself or others at risk.
