Collingwood OPP Detachment Board invites nominations for new program recognizing contributions towards Public Safety and Community Wellness

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

Collingwood, ON [20 June 2025] – The Town of Collingwood’s OPP Detachment Board has launched a new recognition program to show appreciation to individuals and organizations contributing to Public Safety and Community Wellness in Collingwood.

The Collingwood OPP Detachment Board’s purpose is mandated by the Community Safety and Policing Act, which took effect on April 1st, 2024. The revised legislation offers more autonomy to the Board regarding community engagement, setting priorities, and communications.

“Many agencies, staff, and volunteers in Collingwood are dedicated to community safety and wellness in alignment with the OPP Detachment Board’s objectives,” says Board Chair Claire Tucker-Reid. “This work deserves recognition, and the Detachment Board has developed a simple and timely recognition process.”

    Recognition Program Criteria
The Recognition Program Criteria consider the contributions of individuals, agencies, and institutions to ensure residents’ continued engagement in creating a safer Collingwood. Applications will include one or more of the following criteria:

    • Assessment and/or Collective Impact
A study of a particular age group and/or demographic within Collingwood has been undertaken to determine the current safety and engagement issues, best practices, and potential remedies. Efforts have been made to work collectively with other agencies to implement programs and initiatives.

    • Promotion and Awareness
An individual or a collective has undertaken to promote and create greater awareness of public safety issues affecting Collingwood residents, visitors, and businesses, such as Senior Fraud, Online Safety, and Car Theft prevention, as well as other safety-related initiatives.

    • Taking Action
An individual or a collective has taken preventative or emergent actions to address the safety of individuals, groups, or families.

    Application, Selection and Award Process
Nominations can be submitted online at: www.collingwood.ca/form/collingwood-opp-detachment-board. Hard copies are also available at Town Hall, 97 Hurontario Street, Collingwood Public Library, 55 Ste. Marie Street and the Collingwood OPP Detachment, 201 Ontario Street.

Nominations can be submitted at any time, as the Detachment Board will review submissions for consideration on an ongoing basis. Recognition in the form of a framed citation will be awarded four times annually at the OPP Detachment Board’s meetings.
