IMPROPER FUEL TRANSPORT LEADS TO CHARGES IN WASAGA BEACH

    Sharing is SO MUCH APPRECIATED!

(WASAGA BEACH, ON) – Members of the Huronia West Detachment of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop involving a local business, which resulted in the operator being charged with multiple offences under the Dangerous Goods Transportation Act and the Highway Traffic Act.

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, shortly after 7:00 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle transporting fuel in the Wasaga Beach area. The vehicle was displaying dealer plates, and further investigation revealed that the fuel containers were neither capped nor properly secured, posing a significant safety risk.

As a result of the investigation the dealer plate was seized, the truck was placed out of service, and the operator, a 41-year-old from Keswick, was charged with the following offences:

    • Use plate not in accordance with the Act

    • Fail to display prescribed safety mark – small means of containment

    • Fail to comply with Federal Regulations safety standard – insecure load

    • Fail to comply with Federal Regulations safety requirement – unable to produce shipping document

    • Fail to comply with Federal Regulations safety requirement – transporting dangerous goods while untrained

The OPP reminds all commercial operators of their responsibility to ensure the safe and lawful transport of hazardous materials. Unsafe practices not only endanger the driver but also pose risks to the public and the environment.

Anyone with information regarding unsafe transport practices is encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
