(COLLINGWOOD) – The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in partnership with the Huronia West OPP, conducted a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) enforcement initiative in the Town of Collingwood.
During the initiative, officers conducted multiple commercial motor vehicle traffic stops. Each CMV was inspected for safety and compliance under the Highway Traffic Act and Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) standards.
As a result of the inspections, a total of 38 charges were laid against drivers and companies. All inspected commercial motor vehicles were placed out of service due to safety concerns.
Charges laid included, but were not limited to:
- Improper class of driver’s licence
- Defective braking systems
- Improper tires
- Overweight axle
- Overweight vehicle
- No Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration (CVOR)
- No pre‑trip inspection
- Fail to surrender Schedule 1
- Exceeding registered gross vehicle weight
- Expired permit
- No annual vehicle safety inspection
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods violations, including insecure containers, no shipping documents, no training documents, and improper labelling
The OPP reminds commercial motor vehicle operators of the importance of understanding and complying with all legislative requirements before operating on public roadways. These regulations are in place to ensure the safety of all road users.
