Experienced Municipal Leader Focused on Housing, Infrastructure, Downtown Revitalization and Fiscal Responsibility

COLLINGWOOD, ON – June 26, 2026 – Collingwood is entering one of the most important periods in its history. Decisions made over the next four years will shape housing, infrastructure, municipal finances and the quality of life for decades to come.

Former Collingwood Councillor, past President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), and municipal infrastructure professional Norm Sandberg today announced his candidacy for Mayor of Collingwood in the 2026 municipal election.

Sandberg says the election comes at a pivotal time for the Town as residents grapple with rising housing costs, increasing infrastructure demands, downtown parking shortages, traffic congestion, and growing concerns about affordability and municipal spending.

“Collingwood is one of Ontario’s most desirable communities, but many residents are increasingly concerned about whether their children, grandchildren, workers, and seniors will be able to afford to live here,” said Sandberg. “At the same time, we face important decisions regarding infrastructure, growth management, downtown vitality, and maintaining the quality of life that makes Collingwood special. These challenges require experienced leadership and practical solutions.”

Sandberg served on Collingwood Council from 1993 to 1999 and again from 2002 to 2010. During that time, he helped advance projects that continue to benefit the community today, including the development of the Collingwood Public Library, the Collingwood Museum, the Georgian Trail, the Collingwood Trails system and Collingwood’s first affordable housing initiative in decades.

Professionally, Sandberg has spent more than 35 years working with municipalities across Ontario. As a Certified Engineering Technologist and senior municipal infrastructure professional, he has led major infrastructure projects, managed multidisciplinary engineering teams, and worked directly with municipal councils, provincial ministries, community organizations, and residents to solve complex challenges.

He currently manages a team of engineering professionals and consultants on a capital infrastructure project valued at approximately $500 million.

“Throughout my career, I have learned that successful communities are built on sound financial management, long-term planning, and respectful collaboration,” said Sandberg. “I have spent my professional life helping municipalities navigate difficult decisions, secure funding, build infrastructure, and deliver results. I believe that experience can help Collingwood move forward.”
